Orange Glazed Date Nut Bars

"This is adapted from "Simply Delicious Desserts" by Eagle Brand. Make sure you bake these long enough or they may be too chewy. These are a favorite with the older folks."

  • Bars

  • 12 cup butter, melted
  • 1 (16 5/8 ounce) package date bread mix
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 12 cups walnuts, chopped
  • 2 large eggs
  • 14 cup orange juice
  • 2 teaspoons freshly grated orange rind
  • 14 teaspoon salt
  • Glaze

  • 1 12 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 3 tablespoons fresh orange juice
  • 2 teaspoons freshly grated orange rind

directions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • In a large bowl combine all ingredients for bars. Mix well.
  • Pour into greased and floured 13x9" pan.
  • Bake for 30 minutes or until golden.
  • Cool.
  • In a small bowl, mix glaze ingredients until smooth.
  • Pour evenly oven date bread.
  • Cut into bars.

  1. i must be really old, i liked these bars. the only challenge was finding the date bread mix. DH and I thoroughly enjoyed these and they will be a keeper.
