Onion Soup Mix Pretzels

"I'm not exactly sure where I got this one from-it may have been a variation on the "Chex Mix" party mix. It's fast, easy to prepare & is a great snack for playing cards (good beer food!). Not for those watching sodium content."

ingredients

  • 12 cup butter, melted (I use unsalted)
  • 14 cup onion soup mix (this should be equal to one envelope commercially prepared soup mix)
  • 2 -4 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 16 ounces plain pretzel nuggets (low salt version is great if you can find it, I've also used broken sourdough pretzel pieces)

directions

  • Spread pretzels out in an even layer in 9x13-inch baking pan.
  • Melt butter.
  • Add Worcestershire sauce to taste (we like it dark so I tend to be heavy on it).
  • Add dry soup mix.
  • Stir until well blended.
  • Drizzle over pretzels; toss to coat all pieces.
  • Bake for 45-60 minutes in 250°F; toss every 15 minutes to make sure pieces toast thoroughly. Pretzels should be dark brown but not burnt.

  1. My husband is a very picky eater and he just loves this recipe. I suggest using butter flavored popcorn oil instead of real butter because it mixes very well with the onion soup mix and sauce, but it also covers completely every single pretzel.

  2. sorry, but, I just didn't like these. The seasoning didn't 'stick' to the pretzels and they were just soaked with the butter.

  3. Usually I find pretzels very boring, but these are great! I love having snacks like this around for my DS's. My Eldest DS has been pouring some in a bowl and than warms them up in the microwave. The toasted onions are delish! Thank You!

  4. I haven't tried this yet but plan to make this & take it to my friend's house the next time we get together for card night. I may even try it before then for a "Movie Night" snack. Thanks for sharing. Marla

I'm 36, live in Eastern PA and went from being single, with only myself & the cats to worry about, to being a part of a new blended family. So now it's me, my bf, his 2 kids and the 2 cats. I'm finding out that finicky just doesn't apply to cats anymore, either! It is fun, though & very rewarding. My bible of cooking is The Joy Of Cooking-I swear by it. When I'm not chasing kids or doing laundry or working (I'm an insurance agent) I enjoy rug hooking, crocheting and reading.
