This recipe comes from Betty Crocker's Bread Machine Cookbook. I've made it a few times and absolutely love it made into a sandwich with Black Forest ham. The measurements I am giving are for a 1-1/2 lb. loaf.

Ingredients Nutrition

  1. Measure ingredients carefully, placing all ingredients in the bread machine pan in the order recommended by the manufacturer.
  2. Select Basic/White cycle.
  3. Use Medium or Light crust colour.
  4. Remove baked bread from pan and cool on wire rack.

This made very flavorful bread. I wanted to bake two loaves, so didn't use my bread machine this time. I did use the dough hooks on my mixer after the dough got heavy. I thought that if I pureed the onion, the flavor would be stronger, so I tried that (150 g onion for the doubled recipe), which seems to work, however, I needed about 1/2 cup more flour for the doubled recipe. This may have been because of the extra moisture released by the onion. The dough was still quite soft, but baked up into very nice light loaves. Thank you very much, Irmgard, for another lovely recipe. BTW, the yield for the doubled recipe came to two 620-gram loaves and one 350-gram mini-loaf.

This is a yummy recipe! The bread is so soft and smelled great while baking! I made it in my bread machine on the dough setting, and then made 16 rolls, baked at 350 for about 15 minutes .. thank you for sharing a great recipe!
