My German grandmother, Oma used to make these gingersnap cookies when I was a child. I loved them.

This is very close to the recipe I have been using for years. Mine has 1 tsp cinnamon and cloves and 1 T ginger. What a great recipe and I'm so glad I don't have to input it! Thanks! I bake them for 10 minutes.. they would not be even close to done in only 5 minutes!

  1. Cream shortening and sugar- mix dry ingredients in a separate bowl.
  2. Add molasses and egg to creamed mixture- add dry ingredients- stir or handmix.
  3. Roll dough into small balls- roll in extra sugar.
  4. Place on cookie sheet and flatten.
  5. Bake 350 for 5-10 minutes.
