  1. Preheat oven to 350*.
  2. Sift flour, sugar, baking powder and salt into large bowl.
  3. Add egg, shortning, milk and vanilla.
  4. Stir until all is moistened.
  5. Stir in the walnuts.
  6. Bake in a 9x5 loaf pan for 1 hour, 20 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean.

this was excellent....I substituted pecans, and it was soooo good. I don't even like bread and I was eating this.
