This is my grandmother's recipe for pineapple cake filling.
- 1⁄2 cup butter
- 5 ounces evaporated milk (1 small can)
- 1 1⁄2 cups sugar
- 3 egg yolks
- 1 (16 ounce) can crushed pineapple, drained
- In a heavy saucepan, melt butter.
- Add sugar and evaporated milk to melted butter and stir.
- Stir in egg yolks and cook over medium heat until mixture thickens-- about 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in drained pineapple.
- Pour over warm cake.
