Questions & Replies

  1. My mum used to bake apples, she used a tin baking tray, she cored them completely and stuffed sultanas and sugar in the middle. Not sure if she put any water in the dish but they were always squishy and delicious in the bottom, not still in the apple shape at all, a as bd quite brown on top. I’ve tried to replicate them but can’t make them, they’re always quite firm and still in the apple form.

  1. Now this is Comfort food! To the apple juice I added Disaronno(Almond Liqueur)Very good. I used a mixture of raisins and diced candied ginger. Thanks for a great recipe.

  2. Delicious! I used raisins, honey, and water and baked until soft, about 15 more minutes. Thanks for sharing the recipe!

  3. Good taste-I made this exactly as directed using maple syrup. I would have like the apples sweeter so next time I am going to double everything ( except the apples). Overall-I enjoyed this recipe. Thanks Country Lady!

  4. I really liked these, but my spartan apples were small so I reduced the cooking time by bout 15 min. Serving tip: Use Fork and Serrated Knife. It's like slicing ripe tomatoes.

  5. I haven't had baked apples in years and I am so glad I chose to try this one. They are excellent. Used raisins, brown sugar, honey and apple cider - I had no apple juice. A real keeper of a recipe, CL. Thanks for sharing it.

Tweaks

  1. Perfect fall dessert which we enjoyed. Instead of the apple juice I used cider and used only raisins for the filling the apples but next time I may try to fill them with dates and raisins. I only made three apples using two golden delicious and a red apple for the last one. Thanks for sharing! We will be having this often!

In the words of Tracy Byrd, "I'm from the country & I like it that way"!! On May 1, 2008 my husband and I started a new adventure. We'll be living in a 37 foot RV while our new home is under construction. Its out in the country on a dead end dirt road with lots of trees. For the next 4 months or so, most meals will be cooked on the BBQ and life will be full of challenges! We love spending quality time with our friends & family - especially the grandkids!! The photo is 4 generations - my 84 year old mother, myself, my daughter & my youngest granddaughter - taken at the end of 2006. I've participated in many contests & events here on Zaar but this is the first banner that I've posted. My thanks to Dreamgoddess for hosting the contest & SusieD for the banner design! <img src="http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f249/Dreamgoddess555/Narrow1-1.jpg">
