I have seen the huge differences of opinion over okra on 'Zaar, so I just had to try this (my first ever okra) when it was offered to me in Japan. I'm now an okra convert, but maybe it was the simple and delicious way it was served to me!
- Bring a saucepan of water to the boil.
- Drop in the okra and boil for 2-3 minutes.
- Rinse under cold water, then drain again.
- Serve with the dipping sauce.
- Dipping Sauce: Grate the ginger into the soy sauce just as you are serving the okra.
My parents make this for me b/c they know I like the slimy stuff... It tastes really good with just some bonito shavings (katsuo`bushi)on it after boiling it, and soysauce. Several vegetables are served this way - spinach, broccoli... it's called "o`hitashi" in general. (^_^) simple, but very good!
I just love okra, and I love trying new recipes for okra! Those recipes are becoming harder and harder for me to find. This recipe was spectacular in it's simplicity. The method for cooking the okra was perfect. The dipping sauce was subtle and tasty. I am so glad you found this recipe to share with us. This one should go in the Okra Hall of Fame!! Thanks.
Wow! What a sauce! I liked the okra, too. I have never "boiled" okra before now. Love it!
