OK-So this isn't exactly a food recipe but it uses food stuff and it looks pretty cool too! Fun for kids to make.Plus you can point out that oil is lighter than vinegar...a little Science never hurt anyone!
- 1 cup white vinegar
- 3 -5 drops blue food coloring (depending on how blue that you want your ocean)
- 2 cups mineral oil
- In a clean jar/bottle with a lid put 1 cup of vinegar.
- Add your food coloring.
- Add your mineral oil and close lid tight.
- Set on a flat surface and watch it swooch.
- Have fun!
Oooooooooh! So neat! I think I'm going to make a few more with my cousin's little ones. It would be really pretty for Valentine's Day with red food coloring, glitter, and foil confetti hearts.
Fun little project! Doesn't look like much in the photo, but makes a great movie. It took us a while to find the right bottle; needs a cylindrical shape with a tapered neck to develop waves that move well. Ours is only a pint, but a nice coffee-table conversation piece. Made for OZ/NZ swap for Dec. 2008.
These are cute. When my son was in preschool they made them in 20 ounce bottles and added small pebbles and fish glitter. They made these as a surprise and as parents we were wondering why they needed 20 bottles of baby oil for a 'class project'! :-)
