Oatmeal Topped Apple Pie

My Grandmother made this, then my Mom, then me, now my son makes this...everyone loves this pie!

  1. Combine apples with sugar, flour and cinnamon.
  2. Spoon filling into pastry lined 9" pie plate.
  3. Combine rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon.
  4. Cut in butter until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  5. Spoon topping over apple filling.
  6. (Pie can be frozen at this point, add 20 minutes to baking time, bake frozen) Bake in a preheated 375 oven for 35 minutes.

The topping didn't work out for me at all. Had to add flour and oatmeal to make it crumbly. As written it was a paste like substance and wouldn't have covered the pie.

This is my new favorite apple pie. Similar to a really great apple crisp. Delicious!
