  1. Combine wet ingredients.
  2. Ad sifted dry ingredients.
  3. Spread into a 9 by 13 inch pan and bake at 350 degreees for 15 to 20 minute Let cool.

These are wonderful. Easy to make, chewy and so tasty. Based on other reviews, I reduced the sugar to 3/4 and used only light brown sugar. I will probably try a 1/2 cup next time. Use a square pan, 8x8 or 9x9 as shown in the picture, not a 9x13 as stated in the recipe, which would be too big. I made these vegan by using ground flax seeds and water instead of an egg, and vegan margarine instead of shortening, everything else the same. The nutmeg flavor is nice for a change. Would also be great with cinnamon and a chopped apple folded in. They were a bit on the sweet side, so I would probablay decrease the sugar a bit next time. All that said, these are delicious and we love the crispy edges with the chewy middles. Very nice recipe.
