I have been making this recipe since the late 60s or early 70s from one of my mom's cookbook, and I remember reading about how it won the author's grandfather. It has been a favourite of my own family and children's friends.
The cookies I made were pretty darn good, but honestly, I made the best cookie DOUGH I've ever tasted from this recipe. I left out the nuts and added a half a cup of peanut butter and a cup of chocolate chips. It's a huge batch, so I baked a couple dozen and froze the rest of the dough... I'm not sure if it will ever make it to the oven though! The cookies were also amazing. Just the right amount of sweet with a great texture. Awesome!
