  1. Combine flour, baking soda and salt; set aside.
  2. Combine shortening, egg, vanilla and both sugars; beat with electric mixer till creamy.
  3. Beat in the flour mixture.
  4. Stir in the oats and chocolate chips.
  5. Using a teaspoon, drop cookies 2 inches apart on lightly greased cookie sheet.
  6. Bake at 375° in a preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes or till lightly browned.
