directions

  • heat oil or fat 3-4 inches deep in fryer or pot to 375°F.
  • combine flour, 1/4 cup sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt and nutmeg in bowl.
  • add oil, buttermilk, and egg, beat till smooth.
  • drop batter by the spoonful into hot oil, 4 or 5 at a time, and fry 3 min or until golden brown on both sides.
  • Drain on paper towels.
  • combing icing sugar and water, use to glaze freshly cooked puffs.
  • Roll glazed puff in nuts.
