Mmm Mmmm Good! This was a huge hit with the young men in my house tonight and I thought it was delicious! I made it just as the recipe directed, execept I added some sliced almonds to the top after I spread the icing on, and it looked as pretty as it tasted! I had made this for zwt9 Scandinavian recipe..it was absolutely terrific !!!!! I used only half the sugar and still turned out terrific.......I really love this home cooked dessert followed recipe to a T minus the sugar......thank you for another wonderful recipe Pesto lover
I can't remember baking a better tasting apple cake than this one. I loved it. I used 3 different types of apples. I used a mandoline to thinly slice them. Due to nut allergies, I had to substitute vanilla extract for the almond extract. Finally, I made it the night before we were going to eat it. It stayed fresh tasting, just being covered with plastic wrap until the next evening.
This is absolutely delicious. I made it using margarine instead of butter, and I had to use some rum extract as I didn't have almond. I also used a 8x8 pan so mine was a bit thicker.I used Honey crisp apples sliced thinly. I didnt put on the icing at all. The taste was very rich and I know this will be made often at our house. thanks for posting
Delicious. A little fussy in that your hands need to greased and regreased to spready the sticky dough, but the end result is so good, who cares. (I just kept spraying them w/butter-flavored Pam.) The icing seemed a little thin, but I think perhaps it is meant to sink into the dough rather than sit on top of it. ?? Anway, the one picture is taken w/o icing so that the nature of the top can be seen. I think I'd sift the 10x sugar next time. The almond-flavored pastry, juxtaposed against the slightly spiced apples, is fantastic. I used Fuji apples. Husband loved it. This is best eaten on the day that it is made, after it has cooled. It's still good on the next day, but you'll miss the wonderful, slightly carmelized crumb on the bottom and sides, which is really delicious. ZWT6
