Non Smokin Bar-B-Que Sauce

I don't like smokey, overly sweet and overpowering Bar-B-Que sauces. The bacon drippings combined with a sweet-sour, spicy flavor enhances the taste of meat or poultry. Apply more sauce just before serving. This recipe originated from my 25 year old copy of "Joy of Cooking". This is a double recipe which I double again and freeze in 2 cup containers.

This will definately become a common sauce around my house. It was great. I made this to go with Mean Chefs Pulled Pork and it was wonderful. The only thing I did different was to add 1/4 cup sweet pickle relish.

  1. In a 1 1/2- 2 qt sauce pan, sautee the onions in the bacon drippings until browned.
  2. Add the remaining ingredients, bring to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
