Noah's Ark Famous Clam Chowder

"Noah's Ark was a landmark restaurant in St. Charles, Missouri. The restaurant was built in the shape of an ark and had lifesize animal statues inside and out. My mom worked at the Noah's Ark Hotel for years. Time marches on, the restaurant and hotel have both been closed for many years and finally the ark was torn down, for new construction. The good news is that the animals will continue to be a part of the new establishments that will be built.Enjoy the wonderful chowder."

  1. I grew up dinning at "Noah's Ark" we always had clam chowder. The restaurant was an " icon" in West county. I wish they were still there! I moved here to the northwest and will be sharing this recipe with my friends.

  2. Been making this since my mom got it from the restaurant kitchen when we were kids. Super easy, super yummm.

  3. As a child I remember eating at the famous Noah's Ark, and the giraffe swizzle sticks. My mom has made a version of this recipe for years, how ever yours seemed creamier, it was perfect! Super simple to make everyone loved it at our last family get together. Thanks for the memories.

  4. The original Noah’s Ark Clam Chowder did not contain onions. (I would have never ate it back then if it did). However the rest of your ingredients are like the original. So easy and so good. I’ve been making it this way for many years and the guest I serve it to can’t believe how easy it is. I like to heat it up in the morning, cover and set in the refrigerator until about an hour before I’m going to serve it. Then heat it up on low for about an hour, stirring occasionally. The flavors have time to mingle and you will get a deep rich flavor this way.

I am a St. Louis girl through and through. I am a mom of three, two boys and a wonderful daughter, married to my high school sweetie for the last 28 years. My hubby and I are on the verge of being empty nesters and are excited to see what this phase of our lives has in store for us. In the last year my sister and I have been exploring our family history and it has been a wonderful and educational experience. Food and cooking has been a big part of my life from the time I was a little girl and I look forward to sharing that same, wonderful part of our heritage to my future grandchildren.
