Description from the web: Tarte au sirop d'erable - "This classic sweet of old Quebec has a smooth, rich filling, typically shallow and very sweet." I found this hand written recipe in my late MIL's collection. Who knows where it came from; she was Texas born & raised.
- 1⁄2 cup cold water
- 1⁄4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup maple syrup
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 pie crust, baked
- Whisk water with flour until smooth; stir in syrup.
- Stir in egg.
- In a small heavy saucepan, cook over medium -low heat, stirring, until thick, 5-6 minutes.
- Add butter & stir till melted.
- Pour into baked pie crust.
- Let cool.
Love this pie. It's simple and so delicious. Everyone loves it. I know it's supposed to be shallow but I wanted a little more oomph so I increased all the ingredients by 50%. It came out perfectly, as always. It's delightful warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
We make our own maple syrup so it was fun to try making it into a pie. This was very very sweet, so the kids loved it! It was a little more dense than I was expecting, but it did set up really well and was a sweet change from my usual pies! Thanks!
This was quite yummy! So so sweet though so we could only eat tiny servings at a time. Mine didn't set the best but it was the first pie I've made so I'm pretty pleased.
