I have been making this for years and everyone who eats it loves it. It is my 14 year olds favorite birthday cake. The only difference in my recipe vs. this one is that I make the chocolate topping from scratch. It is very easy and I always have the ingredients on hand. I take 3 Tablespoons of butter and melt them in a pan add 1/4 C cocoa, mixing well over low heat. Then I add 1 1/2 Cups powdered sugar, 2 teaspoons vanilla, 3 Tablespoons milk, and 2 teaspoons light syrup; blend well until combined. Frost the cake and refrigerate overnight. It makes the perfect amount of frosting, no leftovers. Also, make sure you get French vanilla pudding because regular just doesn't taste as good. (I made that mistake once!)

This type of dessert is always a big hit at the various functions I take it to. In fact, I made one today to take to our church's Homecoming tomorrow. It is helpful to let your cool whip get a little soft before trying to mix into the pudding. Otherwise you will have to work at getting the lumps out. Also, if you don't have enough time to let it sit overnight, you can dip your graham crackers in milk before layering them. This will help them soften quicker.

Really good! Just make sure you FOLD in the Cool Whip. I made it the first time and it turned out great. It took overnight for the crackers to soften and for it to taste eclair-like. The second time I made it, I was distracted and on the phone, and I did not fold in the Cool Whip, I stirred. Big mistake! It broke down the cool whip and made it kind of runny. Not terrible, but definitely not as good as the first time. More like banana pudding consistency. I also think it's a good idea to let the pudding set for a few minutes. I noticed I did not do that the second time either. Other than that... it was SO good! My husband hates pudding so I ended up eating it all myself (took me a few days lol). I didn't really think it would taste like an eclair, and even after I made it, and waited a few hours I tasted it and wasn't convinced. But after it set overnight it was perfect!

I love to cook and bake and spend many hours in the kitchen on the weekends. It was a huge surprise to me that I would like this recipe so very much. I cannot believe how easy and inexpensive it is to make. The raves I get off of this dessert are every bit the same as what I receive when I spend 5 hours baking a dessert.

I made this desert for thanksgiving because my kids are fanatics of bostom cream donut from dunkin donuts. Everyone who had loved this dish. So simple to make and great for make ahead,,,saves time on Thanksgiving. There isn't a bite left. I do suggest ifyou make this dish don't wait to buy the pudding close to a holiday,,,,all the stores were out of french vanilla,,,,so do buy in advance. Will make this again.

I'm giving this recipe 4 stars. This dessert is very good! I tried this at my future mom-inlaws, friends house over the weekend. This is such a popular dessert that 2 ladies made and brought the same dessert. Overall I'll make this for sure with sugar free products. Thanks for posting a yummy recipe! Christine (internetnut)

Wow, you were right...this did taste just like a chocolate eclair. Super easy and incredibly satisfying. Loved it. The only thing I might change is to use less frosting on top. It made it a little too sweet for me. One of those ice cream "shells" would be good too (give it some crunch). Definitely a keeper.

I made this recipe for a dinner gathering at a friend's home. My husband said it was the best dessert I've ever made. And I've been cooking for him for 15 years! I have to agree. It was SOOOOOO yummy. I kept swiping little tastes here and there from the left overs. This is definitely going to be a regular recipe for special occasions in our home.

This is a wonderful, easy recipe, and the kids loved putting it together. We used light versions of almost everything (pudding, milk, cool whip, and frosting) and it came out great. This is a great way to feed a craving without using up a whole day's worth of calories. Thanks a million, Quest4ZBest!

Wonderful!! I made a half batch in a 9x9 so my layers were a little thin but the taste was still awesome! The only thing I did different was to use plain vanilla pudding (instead of French) as I had it on hand and needed to use it before it expired. Used skim milk, fat free cool whip, and reduced fat crackers and, to quote my sister-in-law, "Really? It tastes so rich!" Thanks so much for the recipe!
