I got this from my Memaw, my cooking idol. Keeps well refrigerated and I have frozen it and used it with great results. I have used this over and over again, especially at holidays, and it always turns out right.
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 3⁄4 cups shortening
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 tablespoon vinegar
- 1⁄2 cup cold water
- Combine dry ingredients; cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal.
- Stir in remaining ingredients.
- Divide dough into 5 equal parts; shape each into ball and wrap tightly. Chill.
- May be stored up to 2 weeks in refrigerator. And at least 2 months or more in the freezer.
