Super easy and works very well indeed with both cloth or paper serviettes/napkins. This very basic fold transforms the naked neck of your wine bottles into something elegant and also catches drips. I have included step by step photographs to illustrate / suppiment my written instructions. This fold works best with a smaller napkin and I almost always find that paper ones are the easiest.

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 1 paper, serviette (napkin)
  • 1 cloth, serviette (napkin)

Directions

  1. Lay out your square serviette in a single layer before you. Fold it in half horizontally, keeping the folded edge closest to you.
  2. Take the top two corners and fold them towards you coming only 1/3 of the way down the serviette, gently crease the new top edge.
  3. Take the bottom two corners and fold half way up but so that the upper edge doesn't quite reach the top edge that you just folded.(this makes for a cleaner and neater looking edge) you will now have a very long and thin rectangle shape.
  4. Keeping the side that has the join to the inside, put 1/3 of the serviette around the neck of the wine bottle, and bring the longer tail end of the serviette over the other end and tuck it carefully undernieth. tighten carefully around the neck of the bottle.

So elegant and easy to do. I saw your napkin ideas featured today on the home page and decided to try this one. I tried this with a paper napkin that has a white background with green grapes and leaves printed on it. It turned out so pretty! I haven't tested how well it works at catching drips (it's only 10 in the morning), but I will be testing it further this evening. I will definitely be using this for Thanksgiving and other festive events.
