Nana's Hungarian Cheese Spread

"I just moved my mother to a retirement home and this was in her "notebook" of recipes. It uses Hungarian paprika, caraway seeds, cream cheese and capers. I didn't remember this but my parents entertained a lot and this must have been one of her dips."

  1. I had a recipe I found for this from another web site. I made it a couple of years ago and it was a huge hit at my house. The other recipe called it "korozott". Love the mix of cream cheese and butter - smooth and wickedly rich. Use really good Hungarian paprika if you can find it - the scent and flavor is phenomenal. Thanks for posting for all to enjoy, mary winecoff, this is a good one!

  2. Thank you for posting this recipe. In Europe this is called Liptauer cheese .I used my homemade ricotta cheese in place of the cream cheese and the results were excellent, very rich and creamy. This is good served with a good hearty bread like pumpernickel.

  3. I love the texture of this one, smooth, thick, and creamy. It is so quick to make and I can't wait to share it with everyone at my Grandmother's 90th birthday party. Made for ZWT 4 by a Jefe de la cocina.

  4. Yum! This was so easy to make, it took me less then five minutes. I also used sweet Hungarian paprika and substituted the chives for the chopped onions. The flavour was really nice and texture was really thick. I garnished it with spring onions and served it on pita bread. Thank you mary winecoff

I have two boys who will usually eat most things I put in front of them. As a single mom I use them as my guinea pigs....sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I have a huge garden, blueberry and blackberry bushes. I am always looking for a new recipe. I have three cats (Xiao Mao, which means little cat in Chinese, Pumpkin and Max) and two border collies, Lucy and Grace. All my animals come from Rescue Agencies. <a href="http://s89.photobucket.com/albums/k217/winecoff8902/?action=view¤t=rsc002.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k217/winecoff8902/rsc002.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k217/winecoff8902/lucyatpoppys005.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"><a href="http://s89.photobucket.com/albums/k217/winecoff8902/?action=view¤t=006.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k217/winecoff8902/006.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><a href="http://s89.photobucket.com/albums/k217/winecoff8902/?action=view¤t=hilfiger001.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k217/winecoff8902/hilfiger001.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket">
