    Ingredients:

    Directions:

      In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, brown sugar and ¼ teaspoon of salt.

      Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

      Combine 1 beaten egg, raisins and buttermilk.
    4. 4
      Add to mixture above and stir until just moistened.
    5. 5
      On a lightly floured surface, knead gently for 12 strokes.
    6. 6
      On a greased baking sheet, shape the mixture into a 6 inch round loaf and cut a cross (4 inches wide and ¼ inch deep) in the top.

      Brush with the other beaten egg.

      Bake at 375°F for 35 minutes or until golden.

      This turned out wonderful! I cooked mine in my rotisserie counter top oven and it was done all the way through at 35 minutes. The funny thing is that I find it tastes like KFC biscuits, only with raisins!!LOL. Which is perfect for me since here in Québec the KFC's don't sell biscuits! So thanks again!! I posted a picture too.

      This recipe is very traditional, but I like my bread a little bit sweeter, so I put in 1.5x the brown sugar. I do not knead this dough by hand it is much to sticky, I just fold it in a bowl and it comes out fine. I also grease a cup cake tray and use that instead of making a loaf, the middle is never undercooked.

      This is great bread! The only thing I did differently is lower the heat to 325 at the end, and bake an additional 10 minutes. After 35 minutes at 375, the outside was done, but the middle was still very doughy. Thanks for posting this, I will make it again for sure.
