Great chili! I made a half-batch of this; using one yellow bell pepper and half of a green bell pepper. I had no trouble finding the canned ingredients in my market. I decided to not add any of the optional ingredients until the chili was finished cooking to see how spicy it was; turned out the heat was just right and I didn't need to add any of the optional heat. I did double the amount of wine listed-just a personal preference!

Since it's never too hot for chili at my house, this one sure tickled our fancy! My DH and I both had seconds. With cornbread on the side it was excellent!

This chili was delicious with the just the right amount of heat for us. I didn't add in the bell peppers because DH doesn't really like them. Otherwise followed the recipe and served with cornbread. It was an outstanding lunch. Call me very embarrased, but this is a very late review for the Elves Appreciation Cookathon in the Photo forum.

I'm still giggling...I served this to friends & you'd have thought we served them habaneros straight up! However - my entire family thought it was absolutely perfect!! I couldn't find the proper beans so I used 2 cans of pintos, added extra onions, garlic, tomato sauce & chipotles (just 1, actually - glad I didn't add 2, lol!) I DID skip the wine & had a beer instead, tho. ;) Thanks, Liza!

Oh welcome the Fall and all the joy it brings. Most especially this chili and the absolute perfect balance of tastes, spice, beans, and tomato flavors as it bubbles happily on the back stove, dominating the kitchen for best aroma of the week. I used the nifty yellow onion, as I pulled them from the garden weeks ago, and now have just come into their own special taste. I did use some pulled chicken meat, in place of the beef. Other then that stayed true to the recipe, and use Rotel diced tomatoes and habenaro chili instead of the basic green chili one. We love .....I love all the spicy taste, the fact that you start sniffiling, and haaaaa-chooooiinnnng.....is always a great sign the tastes are splendid. For the topping I chopped more onion up (didn't have green onion - but now I think of it, I did have chives - darn it' should of used them too) added a fresh jalapeno sliced and fat-free sour cream, and cheese. Oh how yummy! This was truly wonderful Liza, you must, must tell your friend Renee, this is the best I have ever tasted. Thank you so much for sharing this, Liza! Made for *Elves Appreciation Month* Fall 2008.

There may be a bajillion chili recipes here on Zaar but I have yet to find one that was this freaking OUTSTANDING! This chili is the best chili I have ever put in my mouth. The different levels of heat were perfectly balanced. I did have trouble finding a few of the ingredients though, but found suitable substitutions. I will never make boring chili again. You are my hero!
