I luv this. Our recipe is a little different. It's a meal within itself, almost. We cook bacon until crisp. Boil a potato and cut up. Add asparagus (canned) and chopped boiled egg. mix all together and add the heated bacon/vinegar dressing.
We make ours a little differently here in the Ozarks - we scramble a couple of eggs and mix in with the greens before adding the dressing. We also don't use the sugar. My mom always makes this when she makes fresh deep-fried white or black bass. She serves with pan-fried potatoes and cornbread! It's a traditional family meal. Thanks for posting!
This is so good. Just like my Mom makes. I added diced cooked bacon to mine.
This is the type of wilted lettuce I grew up on. Perfect recipe. Thank you for submitting.
Also a favorite here in West Virginia. However, I am going to try adding a scrambled egg or two. My Grandmother made it every spring with the new lettuce.
This was very close to my moms but she also added bacon and hard boiled eggs. I have really missed this recipe that we always had when hot weather
My mom use to make this too, and I am also 58. She always added a little bit of crisp bacon to this. A crowd pleaser for sure.
can u use sugar substitute? I am not allowed sugar
This is exactly how both my mom and my mother-in-law always made wilted lettuce. I bought a head of leaf lettuce for the very first time at the local grocery store. To be honest, I never knew that this was ever grown to form a head, and I turned 60 years old this year. Who says that you can't continue to learn as you grow older? Lol! j/k! The only remark I will add is that I often save some of the fried bacon to crumble onto the lettuce or into the dressing.
Got on to Google my mom's recipe for wilted lettuce, and this is it!! Awesome!!!!!
