Really simple, one bowl recipe. My Mum got this recipe from a friend at work as as soon as she made them I fell in love. I don't make them too often because I'll eat wayyyy too many!
- 1 cup margarine
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon almond extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1⁄2 teaspoon ginger
- 1⁄2 teaspoon allspice
- 1⁄2 teaspoon clove
- 1 1⁄2 teaspoons baking soda
- 3 cups flour
- slivered almonds, how ever many you want, I usually put 1/2 cup to 1 cup (optional)
- Mix All ingrediants together in large mixing bowl.
- Shape into 1" balls and press onto cookie sheet.
- Bake at 350* for 10-12 minutes.
Nice tasting cookie - not too sweet but with a lot of flavor. Very easy recipe to follow too. I used butter as I had no margarine. I used my 1 1/2" cookie scoop and got 47 3" cookies. The cookies do spread so don't put too close together on cookie sheet. I used parchment paper since the instructions don't include whether to grease or not the cookie sheet. This was made for Pick A Chef fall 2007.
Great cookies, I added more spices, used butter, and more almond extract. Will make again! I doubled the batch and got almost two ice cream buckets full of 1 1/2 inch cookies. I didn't bother making balls, just squished some on the pans and baked about 7-8 minutes. My son says they taste a bit like the Amish Friendship bread I make.
Wonderful! This is yummy!! I love the good old-fashioned taste. I followed the directions and ended up with a total of 72 cookies. Thank you!
