My Crock Pot Spaghetti Sauce

"This is a spaghetti sauce recipe that I've developed over time. You may alter the ground meat as you please; sometimes I use all ground beef when I find a good sale but half beef/half pork is pretty tasty. My crock pot is my best friend at times when I'm having busy days at work but still want a decent meal on the table for my family. I serve spaghetti with crusty bread and a romaine salad. Cook time is the crock pot cooking time. This recipe is for a 4 quart crock pot, halve it if your pot is smaller."

  1. Good flavor, but maybe a little too meaty. This had so much meat that it was almost like Sloppy Joe's. So perhaps I will cut down on the meat next time. I used mild Italian sausage instead of plain ground pork, added half a teaspoon of chili flakes and an extra tablespoon of brown sugar. I also used 1 can of diced tomatoes and one can of crushed. I'm glad that I found this recipe, it's delicious and easy to customize to your own taste. Playing with my new crockpot and I love the disposable liners.

  2. I love the addition of pork to the sauce. It adds a whole new flavor to spaghetti sauce. Don't forget to remove the bay leaves before serving.

  3. Hey Jude, this recipe is FANTASTIC,thank you so much, it is greatly appreciated. I did add fresh sliced mushrooms about half way through the cook time, otherwise followed the directions. Everything blends for a perfect flavored sauce. I plan to keep this on hand in the freezer.

  4. Loved this sauce...instead of ground pork I used (3) Hot Italian Turkey sausages which I sliced and browned before adding. Also used (2) 15 1/2 oz. can tomatoes with basil, garlic & oregano and (1) regular can diced tomatos. Used tomato paste with Italian Herbs added. Kept the 5 cloves of garlic but reduced the dried spices to about half omitting the thyme. Made enough for dinner with plenty leftover to freeze. Delicious!!

  5. It was a tad to sweet for me. But when I make a recipe for the first time I follow the recipe exactly how it was created. I wait till I've actually tasted it before I make any changes if any. Definitely NOT too meaty!

Tweaks

  1. I used two pounds of ground beef instead of the pork.

  2. After the ground beef and pork was nearly cooked, I added the onion and garlic and sautéed for a few minutes. I also shook in some red pepper flakes to add a little bite. (My daughter uses ground turkey and adds a zucchini, sliced thick and cut in quarters near the end of cooking time. It’s a nice addition!)

  3. Great recipe! I also thought it was a bit meaty, so I cut it down to 1 lb ground beef, and also added 1 cup of red wine! Ora che è italiano!!

  5. This recipe was so easy and so tasty. Even my picky kids gobbled it up! Instead of using pork though, I used 2 lbs of ground beef. Everything else I followed exactly as suggested. A new staple in our house!
