An old time recipe from my sister in law, this makes a large roaster full. Add your own herbs or seasonings if you like.

I loved this, but DH was so-so (hence a 4-star compromise). We scaled it down to 6 servings, using 3 (4 oz) cans of sliced mushrooms and olive oil. It was a very good and versatile side dish that I could see making often. Thanks for posting, Cookin-jo!
- 10 cups white rice
- 1 1⁄2 cups oil
- 5 (1 1/4 ounce) packages dry onion soup mix
- 10 tablespoons soy sauce
- 5 (10 ounce) cans mushroom stems and pieces
- 15 cups boiling water
