Reviews

  1. I would never have thought to use Mountain Dew in this way, but wow was it tasty. The dumplings were tender and so flavorful. The dessert came together rather quick, without much effort, which was a bonus! So good with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!

  2. You can easily make the calorie content of this recipe 5x's lower by using splenda instead of sugar (1 Cup of Splenda), use diet mt. dew instead of regular (8oz is plenty) and finally use light butter in replacement of "full" butter. Other than that it's a great yummy easy recipe!!! Enjoy the lighter side!!

  3. Crazy good..made a double batch.cut back on sugar since mtn dew is sugar water. Shared with neighbors very easy. And all that liquid is absorbed

  4. I use less sugar... 1/2 c. sugar & 1/2 c. Brown sugar. And I use Diet Mt. Dew instead of reg. It cuts some of the calories at least. You never miss the sugar. These are so good. Been making them for years!! My son loves them.

  5. Tastes great but not overly healthy. I change it up a little. I prefer a sweet apple to a tart one. Gala, or Fuji apples. Second Change the sugar to Honey and Reduce the amount to only 1/2 cup of honey. Third use the "big" crescent rolls instead of regular ones as they cover the apples better. Lastly sub reg Mountain Dew to Diet, if you need to watch the sugar intake. (Why honey instead of sugar? Calorie to calorie a table spoon to table spoon they are the same however.... Honey is broken down in the body completely different than sugar is. So someone with problems with sugar could eat honey easier than cane sugar. Also honey is naturally sweeter thus you only need 1/3 of what the recipe calls for on the sugar/calorie content. )

Tweaks

  1. this recipe is so great and so easy to whip up pretty quickly. for a slight change, add some raisins in with the apples and sprinkle the apples with a bit of the cinnamon sugar before wrapping. try this with peaches also!

  2. Use only 2 granny smith and brown sugar instead of white granulated sugar.

  3. Has anyone tried using ginger beer instead of Mountain Dew?

  4. I used ginger ale. Buffalo Rock is best but hard to find.

  5. My friend made this for a lunch gathering. It was so delicious, and cinnamony. She didn’t serve it with plan vanilla ice cream though, she served it with Salted Carmle Gelato. The carmle was the perfect addition to the apples, it was definitely a comfort food!!!
