Mounds Bars

I got this recipe 20 years ago from a special neighbor. I make it every Christmas, it wouldn't be Christmas without these bar cookies and yummy sugar cookies.

Yum so moist and chewie. The recipe did not state what degree to bake these. So I preheated the oven to 375 degrees. One thing I found a little different was that eggs were added to the shortening before the sugar. Usually you cream butter, add sugar then the eggs. Since this recipe did not call for baking soda I used Dutch cocoa for my choice of cocoa powder. Thanks for posting I'll be making this again. I made this for the Spring PAC 2007 game.

  1. Set oven at 350°F
  2. Beat eggs into shortening. Then add sugar, flour, cocoa, and salt. Add vanilla and chopped nuts. Bake in a lightly greased 9x13 pan for 25 minuets. Do not over bake. Remove from oven.
  3. Blend condensed milk and coconut and carefully spread on cake layer. Bake again for 15 minuets.
  4. Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips on the coconut layer. When the chips melt, then spread evenly over the top and add 1/2 cup of chopped nuts. Cool and let chocolate topping get firm.
  5. Cut into squares. I live in a warm area, so I keep these bars in the fridge in a tightly sealed container.
