Mother in Laws Tongue

"This is a very very rich chocolate bar, Unfortunately once you have tasted this slice you can not leave it alone, It was given to me about 15 years ago by a friend. The reason for the name if the slice is because a mother in laws tongue is usually bitter sweet."

  1. WOW! This was really easy & great tasting. I must admit I did not use dark chocolate, I used Milk Chocolate. The family LOVED it, maybe a little too much! I will definately make these again. Thank you.

  2. For once I was able to purchase the two ingredients that have usually been hard to find before ~ golden syrup & digestive biscuits ~ although I realize I could have come up with suitable substitutes! And, when finished with the recipe, WHAT A WONDERFUL CHOCOHOLIC FIX! Definitely will be keeping this recipe on hand from now on! Thanks so much! 3. Oh my goodness! These bars are incredibly dangerous - - because I want to eat them all!! LOL I found golden syrup and digestive biscuits in the British imports section of our grocery so was able to follow this recipe to the letter (except that I also used a little extra chocolate on the top - about 9.5 oz total). I used Ghirardelli 60% dark chocolate and a mixture of Lindt & Dove milk chocolate for the top. Thank you soooo much for the recipe Whitby Tart!

  4. Wow! What a treat! I usually don't like dark chocolate, but that encouraged me to get really good stuff for this recipe. I didn't have golden syrup so substituted light corn syrup. We were unable to find digestive biscuits so we used butter cookies instead. I also used the whole bag (10 1/2 ounces) of milk chocolate for the topping. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the final product is not too bitter & is not too sweet. What a perfect balance between the two! I would only add to the instructions that the dark chocolate gets melted with the butter & syrup. Thanks so much for your help with & posting of this recipe, Whitby Tart! I live in the Glasshouse Mountain area of Queensland. I have been married to my BH for 28 blissful years. We have three children and 8 grandchildren. Other members of our family are 3 dogs, 1 Jack Russell, 1 Mini Foxy, and 1 adorable Beagle. All our dogs are humans dressed in dog suits. On our property of 5 acres we have a duck pond that is home to 25 ducks which are a delight to us both. I work the property during the week and come weekend we both keep things in running order. We are the owners of a Harley-Davidson Motor bike and try to get away most weekends. As a young girl in England I always wanted to be a cook in the English army. My mother told me that I had to get a real job!! So I was sent away from home to supposedly be trained as a nanny. This ended up being trained in domestic service where I was taught how to run a home and kitchen. This training has, over the years, proved to be a great asset. Yet in my heart I still want to be a cook in the army. I must have over 100 books on cooking and baking. Most of these books are on Desserts. I don't think I have a favourite book. All I know is that I love to read them. My passion is cutting the grass on our property. NO ONE but me cuts the grass. I tend to be over fussy about the way it is cut. My garden, and my fernery is a passion for me. My keeping my husband guessing is a passion. Pet peeves. My goodness, I have so many. But the first has got to be telemarketers ringing right on dinner time, and not being able to understand their English. Another one I have picked out has got to be young people with their car windows open and a deafening noise being emitted from within. They call it music! The story behind my public name may bring a smile to your face. I hope so. My husband is very sure that he was a sailor on Captain Cook's Endeavour. He sailed into Whitby Harbour and saw me standing there selling my wares! He said he fell madly in love with me and took me to Australia with him, and married me. We did, I am sorry to say, lose one another. We were lost to one another until 1975 when we met up again and remarried. In another life we shall look for one another again and be as much in love as we have always been.
