Questions & Replies

 1. It is just me eating breakfast most days some mornings my husband eats with me. He is Muslim so whenever I mention gravy he automatically shuts it down. I want to make this gravy bc I absolutely love biscuits and gravy so i am wondering is it ok to split the ingredients in halves to make the gravy so i don't have too much extra? Also I have never heard of white gravy with garlic before, do you suggest adding still as a breakfast gravy?

 2. Can this be made with almond milk and dairy free butter?

Reviews

 1. This gravy was good, but a little bit salty for my taste. Made for Fall 2009 PAC.

 2. The BEST white gravy EVER-- seriously!! I tried to make vegetarian gravy for years, always used oil and never thought to use butter. I have used this recipe a few times now, and it always comes out perfectly. SO SO good. Thank you!!! :)

 3. Very yummy! Even my skeptical carnivorous DH approved the gravy. I agree that it came out little bit salty, next time I will cut back to 1/2 tsp of regular salt (I may have been a bit heavy handed with the garlic salt)

Also, I ended up using a Tbsp of Whole Wheat Pastry Flour since I was scraping the bottom of the All Purpose. Next time I may try all Whole Wheat... then I can pretend it's a bit healthier! Hehehe.

Pair this with some baked chicken strips, baked french fries, and biscuits or Tx toast and you have a healthier alternative for that greasy fast food craving!

 4. Thank you for this! I am the worst gravy maker and this turned out wonderful!!

 5. I've tried to make white gravy for years. First time it ever turned out. LOVE THIS!

Tweaks

 1. Halve the salt and pepper and substitute garlic powder instead of garlic salt. This will give better control over the seasoning if the gravy reduces too much or too little. Add salt & pepper to taste at the table.

 2. Used garlic powder instead of garlic salt.

 3. This was delicious and super easy! Vegan version: I subbed milk for almond milk (regular) and it worked just fine. You can also sub for vegan butter I imagine because I usually do that and it's fine ( I didn't have any today so actually used regular unsalted.) Seasonings: I used only 1/2 teaspoon salt. For me that was enough, especially combined with the 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt. I'm also crazy about garlic, so I added another about 1/2 season of garlic powder (not salt.) I used just slightly less pepper - about 3/4 what is called for. I also added a few pinches of dried sage. And because I like it in my gravies, I added 1/2 teaspoon nutritional yeast.

 4. With some changes, this was the best vegetarian breakfast gravy ever--and it could beat out most meat gravy recipes I know, too!

I sauteed 6 Morningstar patties before adding the liquid ingredients, and used 3 heaping tablespoons of Bisquick instead of the flour. I eyeballed the spices, using garlic salt, poultry seasoning and lots of black pepper. Outstanding. Even my meat-loving husband said it was amazing.

 5. this was so simple and easy and turned out fabulous. i used johnny's garlic spread & seasoning instead of the garlic salt. i served it over a vegetarian meatloaf (recipe #33921) and some yorkshire puddings. i will definitely be making this again. thanks ammi!
