  • Cream together shortening, sugar, soda, salt and molasses.
  • Blend in flour and nuts.
  • Spread in greased 15x16-inch pan.
  • Bake at 350°F for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Cut into squares while warm.

  2. Love the chewiness of these, & I'm beginning to realize that I need to get back to baking more with molasses! I used some of the large amount of pistachios that I have on hand, & they were great in this recipe! Such an easy recipe to make ~ will definitely keep this on hand! Many thanks!
     
  3. i had no molasses so used treacle instead, and brown instead of white sugar to make up for it, and soy margarine instead of shortening. i was suspicious when i made this, because it looked like so little batter for such a large pan. but i am glad i trusted the directions; the 'cookies' are rich, gooey and addictive, and don't burn in my temperamental oven. will definitely make again!
     
  4. Stephanie, this is a great bar recipe. It is very easy to make, I did use fat free margerine for the shortening and also used splenda for the sugar. This is a keeper recipe, Thanks again for posting.
