I found this in a recipe book that I had stashed in my room.
Make and share this Molasses Sugar Cookies recipe from Food.com.
- Preheat oven to 375º.
- Melt butter in 3-4 quart saucepan over low heat.
- Add sugar, molasses and egg. Beat well.
- In a separate bowl, mix flour, soda salt and spices. Add to first mixture.
- Chill, form into 1-inch balls, roll in grandulated sugar and place on greased cookie sheet 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes.
This is very similar to a family recipe we make every Christmas. Our version uses shortening instead of butter, and increases ginger to 1 teaspoon. They are delicious with the perfect texture - chewy and crispy. Make sure not to over-bake or they are too hard. This is a great recipe to use for cookie exchanges or bake sales, because you can make dozens and dozens very easily.
