  1. In a large mixing bowl cream shortening and brown sugar.
  2. Beat in molasses.
  3. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  4. Combine the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, salt and cloves.
  5. Gradually add to creamed mixture.
  6. Stir in raisins and nuts.
  7. Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart onto greased baking sheet.
  8. Bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes or until edges are lightly browned.

I doubled this recipe and they turned out great. I did roll them in sugar and flattened them with a sugared glass bottom. My husband sure liked them.
