This recipe came from my grandma's recipe box. She never wrote down the amount this batch made and i hope that my guess is correct.

  1. Cream the shorting and sugar together in a large bowl. Add molasses and the egg and mix well.
  2. In a separate bowl mix together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger.
  3. Slowly add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet a little at a time until well blended.
  4. Chill over night in the refrigerator.
  5. Form into 1 1/2 inch balls and roll in sugar. Place on a cookie sheet and bake for 8 to 10 minutes at 375 degrees.
