Mod's Mountain Dew Cake (Rcdc)

"I wanted to make this because of my boyfriend and one of our very nice mutual friends, Doug (Mod), who are basically Mountain Dew addicts. Soda cakes perplexed me at first, but they turn out to be very yummy. Doug claimed if I started making this, he'd lock me in his basement doomed to make cakes forever and that my boyfriend would never see me again! This recipe is very Mountian Dew-yum! Nicknamed the Really Cool Dew Cake (RCDC). I don't like many other recipes of this simply because they have a lot of lemon or pineapple or coconut and it detracts from the Mountain Dew...which of course is the main point for my boys. It even has a Mountian Dew glaze.. If you'd rather ice (or do both!), that's okay too. See my Pineapple icing recipe (#187414) for that!"

Questions & Replies

  1. If making in a tube pan do I pour glaze over cake BEFORE I flip onto platter? Or after I flip onto platter?

  1. This is one of my top 3 favorite cakes. I can't express how my family gets when they realize I'm baking this cake. All around family fav!

  2. I'm not a Mt. Dew fan, choosing originally to make it for fans, yet wow, what a gorgeous and delicious cake! Guess that makes me a fan of the cake. This is going into my Best of 2010 Cookbook. Thanks, kayla carnage. Made for Spring 2010 PAC.

  3. This cake has a lovely flavour. I didn't find the mountain dew taste in the cake itself that strong so I agree that vanilla pudding mix is best to bring out that flavour. The glaze brings out the mountain dew flavour so I'd definitely use mountain dew in the topping again. It is sweet but not too sweet if you take smaller slices. It is very moist so next time I'll try using less oil. Thanks for this lovely recipe! Made for PAC Spring 2010.

  4. Yahoo! I have been a fan of Mountain Dew since it first came out in the early sixties (yes, it is that old!). I don't know why I haven't thought of a cake made with Mtn Dew, but I am glad that I chose this one to try. Yes, it is sweet, but just take smaller pieces! Needless to say, I enjoyed this recipe tremendously. Thnx for sharing it, kayla carnage. Made for PAC Spring 2010. 5. Good and moist. My kids thought it was too sweet (if you can believe that!) but I took it to work and everyone loved it. thanks!

I'm a young kid, 21, and I joined this site to learn more about cooking! Three years or so ago I made the decision to go vegetarian, and so I'm learning to cook without meat! It IS a challenge, but I want to learn to be a good (eventual) wife and (maybe) mom. My mom was a single mom, and didn't have much time to cook, so it's something I want to learn more about. I value homecooked meals and I love to make them when it turns out well. I like taking care of people, and food is definitely one way to warm people's hearts I think. Conversations had and problems resolved over delicious food with a lot of heart DOES make a difference.
