Mock Whipped Cream Icing

"This is a light-as-a-cloud icing, it's similar to a whip cream texture, please remember to bring milk or half and half to a lukewarm temperature in the microwave or the sugar will remain grainy, also this *must* be whipped for 10 minutes --- this is a tried and true recipe that *will* work perfectly if the directions are followed correctly."

  1. Internut's rendition of this recipe is what I remember making in years past, and,it was GOOD!!!

  2. This recipe spelt disaster. 1 1/8 cub of butter plus 3/4 cups of crisco makes this frosting far too liquid like... and I whipped it FOREVER, still didn't turn out, so I used 1/4 cup of butter, 1 cup of sugar and whiped that together with 1/2 cup of crisco, added three tbsp of flour, 2/3 cups of milk, and a few drops of vanilla. It worked out MUCH better this way.

  3. I gave this 5 stars. I've made this for years. This was the first homemade frosting I made. This is very easy and tasty. My copy I got from a cookbook is slightly different. It calls for 1/4 cup oleo (butter), 1 cup sugar, cream this with the Crisco. Then add one at a time 3 tablespoons flour, 2/3 cup milk, and 1 teaspoon vanilla. The rest is the same. It then says to beat for 12 minutes. The first couple of times I made this I added everything together all at once and beat it. It tasted good but turned out alot different then it was supoost to. Thanks for posting this recipe I haven't made it in years! Christine (internetnut)

  4. This is a delicious frosting and I also sprinkle coconut allover the frosting, makes a beautiful cake. Holds up better than any real whipped cream frosting.
