OK I am NEVER making these again... I'll gain 50 lbs if they are within reach! These cookies are DELICIOUS. I'm NOT a fan of the traditional Tollhouse recipe and always wanted to know how to make big bakery style cookies. These are them. If you bake according to the lower time settings (I did 8 minutes and 5 minutes) then they come out perfectly crisp and chewy on the outside and soft and gooey on the inside. FABULOUS. I used jumbo chocolate chips for these, which I think made all the difference... you get a big mouthful of chocolate with each bite. I will say though that I prefer a saltier cookie, so IF I do make these again (for a special occasion LOL) then I will add another 1/2 teaspoon salt. Oh, and yes, I too saw the Throwdown episode and couldn't get over how huge these cookies are! Just great... give em a try! PS - I was surprised that there was no vanilla extract in the cookie dough... but I didn't miss it! It made the chocolate flavor more pronounced!

Made these tonight, and they are fantastic! After watching Throwdown and seeing the pre-baked size of each cookie on the baking sheet (they looked to be nearly the size of baseballs), I decided to make 6 cookies out of each half of the batter instead of 7. This worked out great, because 6 fit perfectly on my baking sheet. Cooked them for 8 minutes, then turned the cookie sheet around and cooked for 8 more, and voila! The size after baking looked just like the ones on Throwdown! And, wow, were they tasty! I will make these cookies again and again.

Great recipe! I made them once as directed but found them to be saltier than we like...so, I tried them again, eliminated the salt and added a couple of dashes of cinnamon and a some vanilla (approx 1 tsp), great again!

OMG, these are great! One of the biggest cookies I've ever made, and one of the best. Believe me, you'll want to eat more than one, but they are very rich, so don't do it!! Besides, with only 14 cookies, you want them to last as long as they can! Really, really good, ghostlyvision. Tnx for posting.

I threw in some vanilla and chopped pecans. PERFECT! :)
UPDATE: Made these again today, doubled the recipe: Unsalted butter; chopped pecans & Nestle semi-sweet morsels; vanilla butternut flavor. Refrigerate dough in formed balls size of tangerines for one hour prior to baking. This way they're ready to pull and place on silicone baking sheets. Remember to keep other balls cold while first cookies are baking. Voila! Best choc-chip cookies on the planet!! Thanks, Levain Bakery ladies, for modeling cookie perfection!!

Iv had the real cookies from Levain in Manhattan and these are pretty darn close. They taste great, are super easy to make, and they look pretty darn close to the real thing. Although, 400 degrees was a little high for my oven because the first batch was a little dark on the bottoms, so I lowered the temp. I would also try milk chocolate because the cookies arn't that sweet to begin with and the semi-sweet can be a little bitter. Overall, great work! Thanks soooo much for this recipe!

I was intrigued by the mixing method of these cookies so I had to try them. Like Chef SelahTerry, my cookies were rather flat & they didn't set very easily--I had to bake them to a crisp in order to get them done. Still they were VERY tasty! Next time I will make them bigger; perhaps I made them too small. I will keep this recipe for when I want yummy cookies but don't want to get out the mixer!

I'm not sure what I might have done wrong but I followed the recipe to the letter and refrigerated over night and the cookies still spread and were not cooked all the way in the middle. The taste was good but I will not make again.

I also watched the Throwdown show, and thought the cookies looked so good. This recipe must be very close, as the cookies look just like the ones on the show! I goofed, and mixed the sugars with the flour mixture before adding the butter, but it didn't seem to make any difference. Since I was in a hurry,.. ( son #2 was due home any minute), I didn't put the dough in the fridge. Despite that, the cookies turned out SO scrumptious! Thanks for the recipe!

Tried the recipe tonight and absolutely loved it. I only used half the amount of nuts since the girls in the family love nuts and the boys don't so we compromised. It still came out great. Good job.
