  • preheat 325°F.
  • sift together flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
  • In a large bowl combine sugar, eggs, oils, vanilla and orange juice- beat until well-belnded.
  • stir in flour mix, fold in apple, nuts and coconut.
  • spoon batter into well-greased and floured 10x4inch angel cake tube pan.
  • bake 90 minutes.
  • mix butternilk saucewhen cake in oven- heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine buttermilk, butter and sugar and heat over medium heat, stirring constantly until it boils. Add baking soda and stir like crazy! Careful it doesn't overflow! Turn off heat and allow sauce to sit.
  • when cake is done, remove and cool in pan 15 minutes.
  • reheat sauce on low.
  • puncture cake deeply top to bottom all over with spoon handle- go crazy!
  • Paint entire surface of cake until all used and let absorb sauce at least 1 hour before cutting.
