Thank you for the best biscuit recipe yet. They always turn out light, fluffy and just begging to be eaten as they come out of the oven (especially slathered with butter when they are hot). OK, I have a soft spot for there and they are just plain good no matter what you use them for! It's at the front of my recipe book :)
My husband made these for breakfast today. They are so fluffy, tender and delicious. We were out of normal shortening so he used the butter flavored Crisco and they were absolutely scrumptious.
Yay! I finally settled on a "baking powder" biscuit that hubby has been looking for! I made these with whole wheat flour which really pushes the envelope on texture. I wasn't reading the recipe closely so accidentally used 1 tsp of tartar instead of 1/2 tsp. I rolled them out about an inch high and was concerned that I had made them too flat. Popped them into the oven at 425F because I didn't want them to burn. At 12 minutes they were perfectly browned and "a mile high" as advertised!
Excellent biscuits. To keep mine from getting too brown on the bottom I bake them on 2 cookie sheets, one on top of the other.
Absolutely the best! I've tried so many biscuit recipes - all were disappointments - not very tender and not very high. Begone hockey pucks!!!! This is the recipe to beat all others. I did not use a biscuit cutter - simply patted the dough into square and used a pastry scraper to cut it into squares. Worked like a charm.
Perfect!! This is the recipe I've looked for all my life. Even though I forgot to add the cream of tartar, and also forgot to knead them, they were just wonderful. I baked them in my Breville toaster oven, and the top temperature selection is 450, so I just used the convection fan. They came out perfectly in 12 minutes. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. I'll be making it over and over again.
These were pretty good. One of my first times making biscuits from scratch. They were good, but crumbly when reheating. Maybe I handled them a little too much?
just a great recipe! easy and with items we always have on hand! Thanks!
