Microwave Rice Krispies Treats

"I was a little surprised that these were not posted on 'Zaar. Using your microwave and 1 bowl you can make these treats in less than 5 minutes. I have used a 7 ounce jar of marshmallow cream instead of the marshmallows."

  1. These came together quickly and went just as fast. I did add a little vanilla right before adding Rice Krispies.

  2. Perfect recipe for those quick snacks and treats!! I threw this together for lunchbox treats when the kids went back to school. My kids loved them!! I used an 8 cup glass measure and it worked perfectly for making this recipe. I did not need to adjust anything - it was great. I do have a 1500 watt microwave so it was a breeze! A little tip that helped me was to lightly spray/coat my spatula when pressing the mixture into the pan so the marshmallows did not stick to that either. Thanks for sharing! Made for Zaar Alphabet Soup Tag game.

  3. The trick for me was to melt the butter for 50 seconds in a microwave dish and then add the marshmallows. Stir until marshmallows are coated with the melted butter. Than add the Rice Krispie treats. The first time I followed the recipe, they were very dry.

  4. Am I the only one who had trouble with these? I thought it was impossible to screw up rice Krispy treats! I followed this recipe exact and the marshmallows and butter barely covered the krispies. Just tastes like a bunch of krispies stuck together, no marshmallow flavor. I got my moms recipe, and the amount of butter and marshmallows she uses is WAY more than this! I was making these for a party and planning on making two batches and made these first and they turned out horrible. Now I have to go buy more of the ingredients so I can make another batch the right way. Not trying to sound rude but I am very disappointed. :/

  5. Super easy and yummy! I love how fast this was. My kids will be glad to know they will have their favorite treats more often now! Note: I have made these countless times since posting. I also add 1/2 cup of peanut butter with the marshmallows and butter before microwaving for added flavor. The kids love the addition.

Tweaks

  1. Here is what I did, and it turned out fine: 6 - 6 1/2 TBSP butter (if using margarine, go down to 5 1/2) 5 cups Rice Krispies 29 large marshmallows I have used these measurements for years. I usually add 2 TBSP of Peanut Butter also, but you don't have to. Melt butter in microwave. Add marshmallows and peanut butter and stir to coat. Cook approximately 2 1/2 min, stirring well several times. I always water-test my syrup for soft ball stage. Then I know it's done. Add half Rice Krispies at a time and stir, stir, stir. You will have to stir hard to coat all the krispies. Put in 8x8 square or round pan. Press down into pan. It should just fill the pan.

I have two boys who will usually eat most things I put in front of them. As a single mom I use them as my guinea pigs....sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I have a huge garden, blueberry and blackberry bushes. I am always looking for a new recipe. I have three cats (Xiao Mao, which means little cat in Chinese, Pumpkin and Max) and two border collies, Lucy and Grace. All my animals come from Rescue Agencies. <a href="http://s89.photobucket.com/albums/k217/winecoff8902/?action=view¤t=rsc002.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k217/winecoff8902/rsc002.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k217/winecoff8902/lucyatpoppys005.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"><a href="http://s89.photobucket.com/albums/k217/winecoff8902/?action=view¤t=006.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k217/winecoff8902/006.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a><a href="http://s89.photobucket.com/albums/k217/winecoff8902/?action=view¤t=hilfiger001.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k217/winecoff8902/hilfiger001.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket">
