In this recipe for Royal Icing, the meringue powder replaces egg whites. Great for assembling gingerbread houses, cookie trains, cookie cottages, any edible food project.
- In bowl, beat meringue powder with water until combined.
- Gradually beat in icing sugar til very stiff, about 4 minutes.
- Cover with damp cloth to prevent drying out.
It may just be me, but I didn't like the flavor from the meringue powder at all. I used this to frost some ghost cookies for Halloween, then switched to another recipe after tasting it. I may save the rest and try it for assembling a gingerbread house. It does look fine and whips us nicely. Susan

Very simple, and so effective. This is one of the oh so many items I used for my daughter's first birthday cake. This particular icing topped a chocolate butter cake with raspberry filling.
