I've always fancied visiting Memphis, but alas, I don't envisage it happening now that we've moved downunder. Still, whilst there are recipes like this around, I can sit back and imagine that I'm there, tucking into wonderful smokey barbecue and washing it down with sour mash.
This sauce was rich, thick, sweet ( but not overly) and completely gorgeous. We've used this on chicken and on burgers so far, all with vigorous thumbs up!!

Ingredients Nutrition


  1. In a medium saucepan, combine ketchup, water, vinegar, both sugars, pepper, onion & mustard. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring to dissolve the sugar.
  2. Reduce heat to low & simmer for 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.
  3. Add lemon juice & Worcestershire sauce, then simmer for another 30 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat & let it cool, before pouring into an airtight container & refrigerate not longer than 3 weeks.
