This is my mother's recipe for meatloaf.

Quite a nice meatloaf. I had to use cream of mushroom soup, had no tomato soup in. It worked out quite well, I put 3/4 of the tin in the meat mixture and spread the other 1/4 on top, then put slices of onion along the top. We liked it, it was a nice change from the usual tomato flavour. Thanks for posting.

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 1 14 lbs extra lean ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1 onion, finely diced
  • 1 (10 ounce) can tomato soup
  • 34 cup oats
  • pepper, to taste
  • 14 cup ketchup


  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. combine ground beef, egg, onion, soup, oats and pepper.
  3. Put mixture into a loaf pan.
  4. Pour ketchup in a line on top of meatlof.
  5. Bake for 45 minutes.
