When I was growing up, a hot dog wasn't a hot dog without meat sauce, mustard, and onions (and fries and gravy). I got this version off the internet and it's very close to the meat sauce I remember.
- 1⁄2 lb ground beef
- 1⁄4 cup water
- 1⁄4 cup chopped onion
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 (8 ounce) canseasoned tomato sauce
- 1⁄2-3⁄4 teaspoon chili powder
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- Brown beef slowly but thoroughly, breaking with a fork until fine.
- Add remaining ingredients; simmer uncovered 10 minutes. Makes sauce for about 12 coney dogs.
This was a very good meat sauce over hot dogs. You really could forgo the hot dogs and use it as a sloppy joe mixture, and it would be just as good. I followed the recipe, and it was a different dinner for my family, which I am always looking for in order to have variety. I did use dehydrated onions because I had some and needed to use them. Thanks so much!
