  1. Made this for my hubby along with some home made pasta. He said it was just like the "gravy" his mother made, but better. I ground beef, ground pork, ground turkey and italian sausage for my meats an included Nesbitt's secret ingredient. My 7ltr enameled cast iron pot just barely held everything. Definite keeper.

  2. This is the sauce my fiancee learned to make from his italian grandmother. He made it last Saturday all day.It simmered most of the day but before he took it off the fire he added Gram's secret ingredient. He kept giving me a piece of french bread with sauce on it in order to add more of whatever it needed. It was great but when he added the secret to it an explosion occured in my mouth. All the flavors came to life. Ok,I will tell you what that is,a small amount of apple cider vinegar.Maybe 2 tablespoons as he did not measure it.It was fantastic! We later[next day]made a homemade pizza using this sauce and me making a thin crust. This was the best pizza we have ever had.Thank you for the recipe.Grandma never wrote it down and this made it easier for me to share it.

  3. I was excited to try this "award winning" sauce. It did not disappoint me. It really had a robust Italian gravy flavor, with a nice thick texture. I browned everything in batches and put in two crock pots, since I was going out. It makes a lot of sauce, which is nice. I'm going to make a lasagna with it, too. Congratulations on winning the contest! Roxygirl in Colo.

  4. There is a reason your sauce won the competiton! It is so good! Perfect seasonings! I was tempted to cut back on the amount of meat, but I held back so that I could have the full effect! I am not a big meat sauce person - but this sauce is EXCELLENT!!! My BF and Best Friend both went back for thirds! Congradulations on a well deserved award and thank you for posting the award winning recipe!

Can't believe I've been a member here for 18 years! It's changed a lot since the old RecipeZaar days and maybe or maybe not for the better. It used to be a community and now it's just a tool. Sad, but life goes on. I have been in Kentucky for 12 years now and enjoy the country lifestyle, along with master gardening. Recipes I've found here since Day One are still in my rotation. Don't entertain that much anymore, so finding new and exciting foods is no longer center stage. Just glad to have so many good recipes to fall back on because eating out is expensive and sometimes too far to drive.
