This tasty Italian sandwich can be served warm or at room temperature.
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 1 medium green pepper, sliced
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 2 loaves frozen bread dough, thawed
- 1⁄2 lb hard salami, thinly sliced
- 1⁄2 lb deli ham, thinly sliced
- 1⁄2 lb mozzarella cheese, sliced
- 1⁄2 lb mild cheddar cheese, sliced
- 1⁄2 teaspoon italian seasoning
- 1⁄4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1⁄8 teaspoon pepper
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 teaspoon poppy seed
- Preheat oven to 400°F.
- In a large skillet, saute onion and green pepper in butter until tender, set aside.
- On two greased baking sheets, roll each loaf of dough into a 15-in. x 12-in. rectangle.
- Arrange the salami, ham and cheeses lengthwise over half of each rectangle to within 1/2 inches of edges.
- Top with onion mixture; sprinkle with Italian seasoning, garlic powder and pepper.
- Fold dough over filling; pinch edges to seal well.
- Brush with egg and sprinkle with poppy seeds.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Cool 5 minutes before slicing.

I made this almost exactly as written, but I used the dough from Barbecue Chicken Basil Calzones (Oamc). I just pulled it out of the oven and it is beautiful! It was so easy to put together and I can't wait for it to cool so I can pack it in my husbands lunch box for tomorrow... he's going to love it! ...So I just realized that I completely forgot to put the cheddar on it!! My hubby had it for lunch and said it would be good with cheddar but it was still great without it. I made this for my OAMC!
