This is the recipe for "Mean Green" juice used in the documentary "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead." I was a little nervous about trying it -- I couldn't imagine that a juice with kale in it would be palatable -- but it turned out to be delicious! That film has really gotten us into juicing.
- 1 cucumber (I peeled it)
- 4 celery ribs
- 2 apples, cored
- 6 -8 kale leaves
- 1⁄2 lemon (rind removed)
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger (I used about 1-inch of the root)
- Wash all ingredients thoroughly.
- Run through juicer and enjoy! Great over ice.
I have a Breville Juicer and it does an outstanding job. So When I make my Mean Green I Tend to only use 2 Kale Leafs. I also Use Red Apples it helps cut some of the tart taste out. This is just personal preference. Also I juice everything I don?t bother pealing or coring anything I found I does not make much of a difference. But again Personal preference cuts down on prep time. But Very good base recipe as most of you like me will tweak to personal taste.
The base ingredients are very good, but sometimes that amount of kale and celery is just too much for me, so I put some pineapple to ease their taste, and this works out PERFECT! It is actually very pleasant to drink now :) Thanks!
I haven't tried the juice yet but I've ordered my juicer. I am sure I'm going to like it because I love all of the ingredients. I've been trying to lose weight since January without success. I have been on Atkins and have maintained my current weight but have not lost anything. I am hoping this will give my weight loss a boost.
