This doesn't sound nearly as good as it is. We serve this with creamed potatoes and a salad. everyone begs for this dish. Its so simple I don't know why we don't fix it more often.
- 2 lbs ground beef
- 3⁄4 cup oatmeal
- 1 small onion, chopped
- 1 egg
- 1⁄2 cup evaporated milk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1 cup catsup
- 3⁄4 cup water
- 3 tablespoons vinegar
- 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- Mix beef, oatmeal, onion, egg, milk, salt and pepper together and shape into balls and lightly brown in oil to sear.
- Add to bbq sauce and cook until all the flavors are absorbed.
- For the sauce: mix ingredients together and simmer until well blended.
Made these for my husband and father-in-law, and we loved them. Much better than the other barbecued meatball recipe I tried, and I will make these again and again. Thanks!!
Excellent recipe! I made it per recipe instructions and served with mashed potatoes. Second night we made sandwiches.
What Margie says is exactly right: "This doesn't sound nearly as good as it is"! The meatballs were tender and delicious, and the sauce is so tasty for such simple ingredients. I simmered the meatballs in the sauce for about 45 minutes but otherwise didn't change a single thing in this recipe. Served with rice (to soak up the sauce) and steamed broccoli. This goes into my cookbook for another easy weeknight meal. Thanks, Margie!
